Jim Cooley

Jim Cooley has an extensive work experience in the technology industry. Currently, they are working as a Principal Database Reliability Engineer at Cognite since March 2021. Prior to this, from September 2018 to March 2021, they held the position of Venture CTO / Director Of Engineering at BCG Digital Ventures, where they led incubation and played the role of CTO in the development and launch of new digital ventures.

From an earlier role at VMware, Jim worked as a Sr Staff Architect, Cloud Automation, where they designed a distributed systems operating environment utilizing technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, and Xenon. Their tenure at VMware spanned from 2016 to March 2021.

Before VMware, Jim worked as the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Ubix.io, a company that utilized Machine Learning to power data analytics and visualization. Their contributions to Ubix.io were from November 2013 to 2015.

From 2009 to 2013, Jim held the position of Director of Engineering, HP Cloud Services, at Hewlett-Packard. Jim was responsible for starting, building, and managing several service teams, including Trove, Monitoring as a Service, Hadoop as a Service, and more.

At Amazon Web Services (AWS), Jim served as a Sr Engineering Manager for Elastic Block Storage (EBS) from July 2008 to September 2009. Jim led the team through the launch of the service and managed various aspects such as team management, service architecture, and capacity planning.
