Mark Smith

Campus Provost, McKinney Campus at Collin College

Mark Smith is the current Campus Provost at the McKinney Campus of Collin College. Mark has been in this position since January 2018. Prior to that, they served as Vice President of Educational Services at Temple College from April 2006 to January 2018. In this role, they were responsible for leadership, oversight, and evaluation of all academic, career/technical, and workforce programs and personnel. Mark also oversaw all student and enrollment services functions. Additionally, they assisted with the development and management of an annual budget of over $40 million.

At Temple College, Mark led a diverse team of faculty, staff, board members, and learners in the development of the college's 2010-2015 and 2016-2021 strategic plans. Mark also provided leadership and coordination in the development of the college's 10-year Master Plan. Additionally, they informed and advised the Board of Trustees on college matters at monthly Board meetings. Mark also assisted in the development, marketing, and passage of a Branch Campus Maintenance Tax in Hutto, Texas. Furthermore, they assisted in the development of and passage of a $13 million General Obligation bond in 2010 and a $7.5 million General Obligation bond in 2006.

At Collin College, Mark is responsible for general oversight for many health professions accreditation reports. Mark also served as the 2015-2016 Chair of the P-20 Central Texas Regional Council. Additionally, they serve on the East Temple Development and Redevelopment Planning committee designed to foster the revitalization of East Temple. Furthermore, they co-chaired The Central Texas 2-STEP NSF grant designed to involve learners in "best practices" related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. Mark has also served on many statewide committees to include the: TACC eLearning Council, THECB Undergraduate Education Advisory Committee, THECB's Texas Success Initiative Negotiated Rulemaking Committee, and THECB's Block Scheduling Negotiated Rulemaking Committee. Additionally, they serve as the THECB's Community, State, and Technical College Liaison. Lastly, they serve as the administrative lead for Temple College's Achieving the Dream, Dana Center Mathematics Pathways, and Texas Pathways Project initiatives.

They are on a team with Lisa R. Vasquez - Vice President of Advancement, Monica Velazquez - General Counsel, and Jon Hardesty - Vice President, Academic Affairs. Their manager is H. Neil Matkin, District President.
