Defne Ciliz

Defne Ciliz is a dedicated professional currently serving as Business Director and Business Representative for the Columbia Economics Society since September 2023. Defne has gained valuable experience through various internships, including a Sales & Product Management Internship at QBS Software in July-August 2024 and a Software Engineer & E-Commerce Internship at Inveon in August 2023. Previous research assistant roles were held at Yale University, focusing on jamming grippers under Professor Corey O'Hern, and at the University of California, Berkeley, working on a pattern recognition project with Professor Murat Arcak. Defne also contributed to a project on sustainability at Koç University under Professor Gurhan Canlı and interned at Global Compact Türkiye and Kordsa. Education includes a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Duke University, along with a high school diploma from Üsküdar American Academy. Defne has furthered academic pursuits through college credit courses at Yale University and participation in the Yale Young Global Scholars program.
