Michael Cerney

Michael Cerney has extensive work experience in financial planning, analysis, and business intelligence. Michael currently serves as the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at Common App. Prior to that, they were the Director of Financial Intelligence at DLA Piper, where they led a team responsible for identifying insights from financial data and developing a data warehousing strategy. Michael also worked as the Director of FP&A and Business Intelligence at Public Interest Registry, where they built the business intelligence and analytics practice from scratch. Before that, they were the Director of Financial Planning Analysis at AAMVA, managing budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for the Information Technology division. Michael started their career at Unisys as a Manager in earned value and financial analysis and worked on major FBI CODIS programs. Earlier in their career, they held roles at Loan to Learn and UBS, where they supervised loan operations and facilitated sales activities and underwriting of securities-backed loans.

Michael Cerney attended the University of Virginia from 2000 to 2004, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Following this, they pursued further education at the Virginia Tech Graduate School from 2015 to 2017, earning a Master's degree in Information Technology. In terms of additional certifications, Michael obtained the Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional (CNAP) from BDO in March 2023.
