Amy Helwig, MD, MS, FAAFP has a diverse and extensive work experience. Amy currently holds the position of Chief Quality Officer at Commonwealth Care Alliance since 2023. From 2020 to 2023, they served as the Executive Vice President, Commercial Health at RTI International. Prior to that, they worked at UPMC Health Plan from 2016 to 2020 as the Chief Quality Officer and Vice President of Quality Improvement and Performance. From 2014 to 2016, they were the Deputy Director of the Center for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Amy also worked as the Director of HIT Safety and Clinical Informatics at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT from 2013 to 2014. Earlier in their career, they served as a Medical Officer at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality from 2006 to 2013, and as the Medical Director at eHealth Initiative in 2005. Amy started their career as the Associate Corporate Medical Director at QuadMed LLC in 1998. With their extensive experience, Amy Helwig has developed expertise in quality improvement, patient safety, health IT, and care delivery.

Amy Helwig, MD, MS, FAAFP earned their MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1993. Amy later pursued an MS in Medical Informatics at the Milwaukee School of Engineering from 1997 to 2000. In 2005, they completed the Executive Development Program at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Additionally, Amy holds a BS in Medical Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, which they obtained from 1986 to 1992. Currently, they serve as an Adjunct Professor at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
