James Hunter has a diverse work experience in various roles and organizations. James began their career as a Photolab Associate at Big W in 2007 and worked there until 2013. Concurrently, they also worked as an Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme Tertiary Tuition Tutor at the University of New England from 2010 to 2011. In 2011, they joined the Electorate Office of the Northern Tablelands at the Parliament of NSW and stayed there until 2013. From 2012 to 2013, they worked as a Research Officer at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. In 2013, they became a Research Economist at the Productivity Commission, where they conducted a public inquiry and published analyses until 2015. James then moved to the Commonwealth Treasury and worked as a Policy Analyst from 2015 to 2016. James returned to the Productivity Commission in 2016, working as a Research Economist until joining NITI Aayog in 2020. At NITI Aayog, they worked as an Australian Treasury Secondee for a brief period. James later returned to the Commonwealth Treasury in 2020, where they held various roles, including Senior Policy Analyst and Director of the Banking Unit in the Financial System Division.
From 2008 to 2012, James Hunter attended the University of New England (AU) where they obtained a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) Class I degree. James'sfield of study focused on Economics and included a double major in Econometrics.
