Derek Watson

Derek Watson has a diverse work experience in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and imagery analysis. Derek started their career in 2014 as a GIS Analyst at the City of Federal Heights, where they worked for three months. In 2015, they joined the City of Centennial as a GIS Analyst for nine months.

In the same year, Derek joined CompassData, Inc. as a GIS/Imagery Analyst, where they worked for three years. During their time at CompassData, Inc., Derek gained expertise in satellite, aerial, and terrestrial imagery/LiDAR processing and analysis. Derek also obtained FAA certification for orthoimagery and contributed to the Aerodrome Mapping Database (AMDB) and Airport GIS (AGIS). Additionally, Derek played an important role in the worldwide ISO certified ground control collection and archive.

In 2018, Derek was promoted to the position of Product Manager at CompassData, Inc., where they worked for five years until the present. Their role as Product Manager involved overseeing the development and management of GIS and imagery-related products.

Derek Watson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Government from Metropolitan State University of Denver in 2009. Later, they pursued a Graduate Certificate in GIS and Remote Sensing at the University of Denver, completing it in 2014. Finally, Derek obtained a Master of Science degree in Geographic Information Science from the University of Denver in 2015.
