Dave Birkins

Dave Birkins has extensive experience in the finance industry, with a focus on operational and financial leadership roles. Dave is currently the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Connex Credit Union, where they began in March 2022. Prior to this, Birkins served as the Chief Operating Officer at Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank from February 2017 to March 2022, where they had broad responsibility for strategy, policy, and overseeing financial and business operations. Before that, they worked as the Executive Managing Director at The NBS Group from April 2016 to February 2017, where they enhanced the company's capabilities in the market. Dave also held the position of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Claremont Savings Bank from September 2015 to March 2016. Birkins was recruited by a private equity firm to provide financial and operational leadership to two early-stage fintech companies, SmartPay Solutions and Insuritas. At SmartPay Solutions (from November 2014 to August 2015), they served as the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, while at Insuritas (from April 2013 to November 2014), they were the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. From September 2006 to February 2013, they were the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Union Savings Bank, where they significantly influenced policy and strategy and had responsibilities in accounting, treasury management, loan servicing, and wealth management. Earlier in their career, Birkins worked as the Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston from December 2003 to June 2006, where they marketed the bank's products and services to members in Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Dave also served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at North American Bank from December 1999 to December 2003, where they led a successful turnaround of the bank and improved organizational effectiveness. Prior to that, they held the position of Vice President of Finance at New England Community Bancorp from August 1993 to December 1999, where they were a key member of senior management and had responsibilities in operations, financial reporting and planning, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, and asset/liability management.

Dave Birkins attended the University of Connecticut from 1981 to 1985, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Economics.
