Curtis Bernard

Curtis Bernard is the Executive Director of Conservation International in Guyana. Curtis has over 25 years of experience in the field of environmental research and conservation.

Curtis Bernard began their career as a Research Assistant at the National Agricultural Research Institute in 1996. In this role, they assisted in the identification, formulation and execution of research projects in the Soils and Landuse Surveys Department. Curtis also assisted in the execution of soils surveys and other soils investigations. In addition, Curtis established and managed a Geographic Information System (GIS) with focus on the soils of Guyana. Curtis was also the counterpart to the GIS Working Group of the Natural Resources Management Project (NRMP).

From 1996 to 2007, Curtis Bernard was also a Chemistry Tutor at the Guyana School of Agriculture where they assisted first year Diploma students in the understanding of intermediate chemistry and its application to agriculture. Prior to that, they were a Science Teacher at St. Joseph High School from 1993 to 1995.

Curtis Bernard has a passion for environmental research and conservation and has dedicated their career to protecting the environment and natural resources of Guyana.

Curtis Bernard was educated at the University of Guyana, where they obtained a BSc. in Biology/Chemistry. Curtis then went on to earn a Master's degree in Environmental Management from Duke University - Nicholas School of the Environment.

They are on a team with Brian Freed - VP, Global IT, Anastasia Khoo - Chief Marketing Officer & Senior Advisor to the CEO, and Aulani Wilhelm - SVP, Center for Oceans. Curtis Bernard reports to M. Sanjayan, CEO.
