Justin Brookman's work experience includes serving as the Director of Privacy and Technology Policy at Consumer Reports since August 2017. Prior to that, they were the Policy Director in the Office of Technology Research and Investigation at the Federal Trade Commission from August 2015 to August 2017. From November 2010 to July 2015, they worked as the Director of Consumer Privacy at the Center for Democracy & Technology, and also held the position of Senior Fellow there from January 2010 to November 2010. Before that, Justin worked at the New York Office of the Attorney General, initially as an Assistant Attorney General in the Internet Bureau from August 2004 to October 2007, and then as the Chief of the Internet Bureau from October 2007 to December 2009. Justin began their career as an Associate at Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson LLP from September 1998 to August 2004.
Justin Brookman earned their Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia between 1991 and 1995. Following this, they pursued their Juris Doctor degree from New York University School of Law, completing it between 1995 and 1998.
