Neal Carty, Ph.D. has held various research and development roles throughout their career. Neal started as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at NIST from April 2007 to August 2008. Neal then joined Avery Dennison in September 2008, where they worked as a Research Chemist at the Avery Research Center until September 2012. During this time, they focused on medical product development and corporate strategy. From September 2012 to December 2014, they held the role of Research Scientist and Manager at Avery Dennison, leading the materials science team in the design of wearable electronics for health and wellness monitoring.
In May 2015, Neal Carty was promoted to the Senior Director of Global Research and Development at Avery Dennison. In this role, they were responsible for developing antimicrobial drug/device combination products, medical devices, and medical materials, ultimately leading to global commercialization. Neal also developed and implemented a customer-centered innovation strategy, significantly increasing the business's vitality.
Most recently, Neal Carty joined ConvaTec in October 2020 as the Vice President of Advanced Biomaterials & Process Development and Ostomy Care R&D. In this executive role, they oversee product development, project management, innovation, and sustaining engineering for a portfolio of globally marketed medical devices. Neal collaborates with stakeholders to execute strategies aligned with corporate objectives, including revenue growth, margin improvement, and quality.
Neal Carty, Ph.D., completed their undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from 1998 to 2001. Neal then pursued their doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering at Caltech, where they studied from 2001 to 2007. In 2015, Neal Carty obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Business Administration and Management, General from the Weatherhead School of Management at Case Western Reserve University, completing their studies in 2017.
