James Riney

Founding Partner CEO of Coral Capital. Since 2015, he has been the representative and managing partner of 500 Startups Japan. Invested in more than 40 seed stage companies and managed a total of about 15 billion yen. He is also an early investor for SmartHR, leading a Series B funding round of approximately 1.5 billion yen and is currently an outside director of SmartHR. Since 2014, he has been engaged in global investment at DeNA, mainly in Southeast Asia and Silicon Valley.

In 2016, he was selected in the "Finance & Venture Capital" category of Forbes Asia 30 Under 30. Prior to becoming a venture capitalist, he was co-founder and CEO of STORYS.JP operating company ResuPress (now Coincheck). Moved to Tokyo while working for JP Morgan. He lived in Japan when he was a child, so he is fluent in Japanese.
