Steve LeClair is chief executive officer (CEO) of Core & Main, a leading distributor of waterworks and fire protection infrastructure products in the U.S. He oversees the strategic direction of the company and serves on its board of directors.
LeClair has a proven track record of creating value for shareholders in private equity environments and publicly-traded corporations. LeClair was named CEO of Core & Main when it became an independent company in August 2017, acquired by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice from HD Supply Holdings, Inc.
Prior to his position as CEO of Core & Main, LeClair served as president of HD Supply Waterworks, where he grew the company through acquisitions and implemented Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, which led to a successful initial public offering in 2013, with a secondary offering in 2014. Previously, he was president of HD Supply Lumber and Building Materials until its divestiture to ProBuild Holdings in 2008. LeClair joined HD Supply in 2005 as senior director of operations. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of General Electric (GE) Equipment Services. He held progressively responsible roles at GE Appliances and Power Generation in distribution, manufacturing and sales.
LeClair is a graduate of the GE Power Generation Manufacturing Management Program. He earned his MBA from the University of Louisville and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Union College. He serves on the board of directors at AAON, a manufacturer of HVAC equipment. He has served as a member of Saint Louis University’s International Business School Advisory Council. LeClair also received his certification as a master brewer from the brewing science and engineering program at the American Brewer’s Guild.
