Ben Hughes has a strong work history in the legal field. Ben is currently the Head of Legal at Core42, where they lead a team of lawyers and advises on various legal matters including commercial, regulatory, intellectual property, corporate, litigation, employment, and real estate. Ben specializes in cloud and AI-enabled transactions related to fintech, driverless vehicles, healthcare, national cloud infrastructure, government digital transformation, and submarine cable projects. Prior to their current position, Ben worked as a Senior Associate at Bird & Bird for over 15 years. Ben was recognized as one of the firm's key lawyers in their Legal 500 listing for IT and telecoms. During their time at Bird & Bird, Ben developed a broad client and deal portfolio, focusing on fintech, cloud services, commercialization of disruptive technologies, software development, complex cross-border technology outsourcings, and 5G telecommunications. Ben also had several in-house secondments at Ernst & Young, British Telecom, the Ministry of Justice, London 2012, and the Football Association.
Before joining Bird & Bird, Ben gained experience as a Project Manager at tech startups from 2001 to 2004. Ben also worked as a Network Support Analyst at Investec Asset Management from 1998 to 2000.
Ben Hughes earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Philosophy from King's College London between 1993 and 1996. Ben later pursued Law at the University of the West of England, attaining a GDL and LPC degree from 2004 to 2006.
