Amy Schwartz

Amy Schwartz joined The Corning Museum of Glass in 1995 to create The Studio, the artistic and educational glassworking facility of the Museum that provides programs for people of all ages and all levels of glass expertise. Schwartz designs curricula, hires internationally recognized glass artists as faculty, oversees selection of students, distributes scholarship funds, and directs residency, walk-in, group, and school programs. From 2002 to 2014, Schwartz directed education programs for the entire Museum, including K-12 school highlights and curriculum-based tours, and the Museum’s docent, Scout, Junior Curator, Explainer, and public education programs. In 2007, she became head of the development department (until 2012) and joined the Museum’s leadership team.

Schwartz maintains a glassblowing practice as a designer and maker of functional and decorative objects. She specializes in simple, elegant forms using luscious colors. She is influenced by southwestern Native American pottery, Venetian blown glass, and the ideas that came out of the Bauhaus school.

As director of The Studio, Schwartz is an advocate for artists and students using glass. She is dedicated to providing opportunities for artists and students through scholarship and residency programs, inviting top notch artists and expert craftspeople to teach at The Studio, and putting artists together with people and materials that might help expand their work and their visions.
