Martin has been a professional archaeologist for 30 years. After graduating in archaeology from Leicester University in 1987 he worked as a Field Archaeologist with the Leicestershire Archaeology Unit and then with the Department of Urban Archaeology at the Museum of London, before joining Exeter Archaeology in 1994, becoming a Project Manager in 1998.
Martin joined Cotswold Archaeology in 2000 and became Head of Publications in 2003, a department which included the Post-Excavation, Finds, Environmental, Illustration and Archives teams. In 2018 he was appointed Head of the Cirencester office with overall responsibility for the delivery and quality of the work delivered by the field and post-excavation teams based there. He continues to contribute directly to a variety of CA publications.
Martin has particular expertise in medieval and post-medieval urban archaeology, and in monastic archaeology. His publications include major excavations in Plymouth and Bristol, and he is currently involved in bringing excavations in Gloucester and Bath to publication. He has also worked abroad in Norway and Ethiopia.
