John Maki is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in criminal justice and academia. Currently serving as the Director of the Task Force on Long Sentences at the Council on Criminal Justice since December 2021, John also contributes as an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University Chicago since January 2009. Previously, John held leadership roles, including Local and State Government Best Practices Director and Director of Innovation at the Alliance for Safety and Justice, and Executive Director positions at the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority and the John Howard Association of Illinois. John has a diverse background in operations, media outreach, policy development, and fundraising. Academic credentials include a Juris Doctor from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, a Master's degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago, and a summa cum laude Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and English from Whittier College.
