Basil has over 8 years of experience working on sustainable development across intergovernmental, multilateral, research, civil society organizations and municipalities with a keen interest in bridging public policy and innovative scientific and technological solutions to achieve better urban governance, land-sea planning and management. He has been pivotal in helping African cities to accelerate the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals, supporting the implementation of the Urban Monitoring Framework and the New Urban Agenda in the WIOMSA region. He is currently driving the vision of the Cities with the Ocean platform of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of the UNESCO launched at the UN Oceans Decade Conference 2024: The CwO is a global platform built to enhance the use of science for policy and decision making by Coastal cities. Locally, Basil serves as the Chief Sustainability Officer of the City of Mombasa where he combines strategic vision and solid analytical thinking on global public policy with in-depth technical expertise in environmental sustainability to conceive, manage and upscale innovative sustainability initiatives, multi-stakeholder dialogues and strategic partnerships in Mombasa.
Basil engages with the young people through his special organizations; Together4Climate (T4C) and the Governor’s Young Leaders Program (GYLP). Basil also joined the UNEP MGCY in 2022 as part of the Stockholm +50 Youth Task Force Working/ Focus Group.
Basil is a member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals.

In 2016, Basil graduated from the Technical University of Mombasa, Bachelor of Business Administration- Accounting.
In 2021, Basil obtained a Diploma in Environmental Governance from DTU - Technical University of Denmark.
In December 2021, they obtained another Diploma, titled "Strengthening Policy Dialogue (Diploma)- Role of Governments, Interest organizations and Civil Society," from Danida Fellowship Centre, Copenhagen, Denmark.
In 2022, Basil completed an Executive Masterclass on Public Private Partnerships at the MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation MS-TCDC, Arusha, Tanzania.
In 2023, Basil completed an Executive Leadership Program in Leadership in Public Management at Arizona State University.
