CJ Avilla has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Starting in 2005, CJ worked as a Perl Developer at the UNR Seismological Lab. In 2006, CJ became a Web Developer - Contractor at Starchild Corp., building one-off line of business web applications. CJ then joined the US Army in 2007, serving as an E5 25B 25Q CCNP, CISSP, CCNA and undertaking various responsibilities such as managing tactical network nodes and establishing a Network Control Center in Afghanistan. In 2012, CJ worked as a Web Developer/Insider Trading Analyst at Muzea Insider Consulting, conducting critical analysis of insider trading activity and developing interactive stock charts. CJ also served as a Software Engineer at Hamilton Company from 2012 to 2013, building FDA approved tooling and developing a web-based tool for operating a large robot. From 2013 to 2015, CJ worked as an Instructor - Web Development at App Academy, leading the San Francisco campus and developing curriculum for web development topics. CJ then joined MyVR as a Senior Software Engineer from 2015 to 2019, leading the design, development, and maintenance of the company's API infrastructure. Since 2019, CJ has been associated with Stripe, starting as a DSE and working with various languages and technologies like Ruby, Python, Node.js, and Java. CJ then became a Developer Advocate, building the Stripe developer video program and maintaining Stripe Samples. Finally, since 2023, CJ has been working as a Full Stack Engineer at Craftwork.

CJ Avilla attended the University of Nevada, Reno from 2007 to 2012. During this time, they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. In August 2011, they obtained the CCNP (Expired) certification from Cisco, and in August 2012, they obtained the CISSP (Expired) certification from (ISC)2.
