Ilkka Lappalainen

Ilkka Lappalainen serves as the Director and Deputy Head of ELIXIR Finland at the CSC - IT Center for Science since November 2015, managing service development projects related to biomedical research and international collaborations. Previous roles include Human Data Coordinator at ELIXIR, where responsibilities encompassed coordinating partners to implement a human data management plan, and co-leading an Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure Task Force. Lappalainen led the Variation Archive Project at EBI from July 2007 to October 2015, overseeing the development of genomic variation archive services. Academic background includes a PhD in Biochemistry and Bioinformatics from the University of Helsinki and a MSc in Biochemistry from the same institution, complemented by early research at Cambridge University focusing on genetic variants and their impact on diseases.
