Nitin Kumar began their career in 2011 as a Research Assistant at Iowa State University, where they focused on elucidating the structural and functional mechanism of drug efflux pumps that provide resistance to bacteria against a broad range of antibiotics, using X-ray crystallography. During their time there, they led, designed and successfully determined the structure of 3 bacterial membrane proteins and 3 soluble proteins, and built strong collaborative and teamwork skills resulting in 6 co-authored publications. Nitin also worked as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate labs and recitation classes for 8 semesters, and trained and mentored rotation and graduate students. In 2017, they joined Baylor College of Medicine as a Postdoctoral Associate, where they investigated the structure-function of ion channels, GPCRs and key protein complexes along the G-protein mediated signaling cascade, using single particle cryoEM and X-ray crystallography. Nitin also completed cryoEM training at NCMI core facility at Baylor College of Medicine and established reconstitution protocols for membrane proteins like TRPV2 into lipid nanodiscs for cryoEM studies. In 2020, Nitin Kumar moved to MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Finally, they are currently employed at Cue Biopharma as a Scientist since 2022.
Nitin Kumar received their Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Chemistry from Panjab University from 2006 to 2011. Nitin then went on to pursue their PhD in Chemistry from Iowa State University from 2011 to 2016.
