Xuejin Zhang has a diverse work experience in various research and scientific roles. They started their career as a Research Assistant at Gansu Agricultural University in China in 2011. They then moved on to become a Research Intern at Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences for a brief period. In 2011, they also worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Zhejiang Gongshang University in China, where they developed protocols for muscle protein extraction and optimization of 2-DE protocols.
In 2013, Xuejin joined the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a Graduate Research Assistant. Here, they conducted extensive research using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence techniques to study the impact of birth weight on nervous system development in piglets. They also established an animal model for Gut-Brain-Axis studies and contributed to published case reports. They managed lab inventories and assisted in data organization.
They continued their journey at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as a Laboratory Technician in 2016, where they tested in vitro anti-Toxoplasma activity and cytotoxicity. In 2018, they became a Research Assistant, focusing on identifying methyltransferases for nematode species. They also served as a Teaching Assistant, providing laboratory preparation assistance to veterinary students.
In 2022, Xuejin joined Hengenix Biotech, Inc. as a Scientist 1. Here, they were responsible for antibody/protein purification, analysis, and quality control for cancer therapy. They utilized various techniques such as AKTA FPLC system, SEC-HPLC, cSDS, glycan analysis, LC-MS, DLS, and DSC.
Currently, Xuejin is an Associate Scientist at CytomX Therapeutics, starting in 2023.
Xuejin Zhang completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Veterinary Medicine Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 2018 to 2022. Prior to that, from 2013 to 2015, Zhang earned a Master of Science (M.S.) in Veterinary Pathology and Pathobiology from the same institution. Zhang began their academic journey at Zhejiang Gongshang University, graduating in 2012 with a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Food Quality and Safety.
