Amir Hormati is currently the Director of Engineering at Databricks, where efforts are focused on the intersection of data warehousing, business intelligence, and machine learning/AI, including the AI/BI Genie initiative. Previously, Amir held various leadership positions at Google from April 2013 to October 2023, notably as Lead for GenAI Incubation in Data Analytics and as Senior Engineering Manager for BigQuery, while also founding BigQuery Data Canvas and developing advanced analytics solutions. Amir's experience includes roles as Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research, where contributions were made to the FPGA in the Data Center project, and as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Michigan, leading to a PhD in Computer Science and Engineering. Amir also interned at IBM and worked as a Software Developer at ObjectJ, contributing to multiple J2EE projects. Education includes a PhD from the University of Michigan and a B.Sc. from Sharif University of Technology.
