Bret McGuire has a diverse work experience spanning several companies and roles. Bret started their career in 1998 as a System Administrator at Altec Group, where they performed system administration tasks for multiple UNIX/Linux servers. In 1999, they worked as a Consultant at Honeywell, implementing a Java application for tracking employees in a secured facility. Bret also worked as a Consultant at Sprint, where they implemented multiple components of a Web hosting framework in Java and maintained existing Perl infrastructure.
In 2002, Bret joined Transcend Software as an Engineer, and in 2004, they joined TEAM Informatics as a Technical Architect/Senior Software Engineer. During their time at TEAM Informatics, they developed Java/Python web applications and web services for an identity theft detection startup and implemented multiple enterprise content management applications.
From 2007 to 2014, Bret worked at Code42. Bret started as a Software Engineer and worked on various efforts for Code42 clients, including an SSH proxying implementation and bug fixes for the flagship PRO Server product. Bret then became a Consultant and implemented new features and bug fixes for data providers and the user interface. Later, they led the effort to redesign and reimplement the PRO Server, building a new server core and implementing various services.
Since 2015, Bret has been working at DataStax. Bret started as an Engineer in the OpsCenter team, where they implemented new features and bug fixes in areas such as Solr support, backup and restore, metrics and diagnostics. Bret then became the Backend Technical Lead for OpsCenter, where they were the primary technical contact for the development of the OpsCenter backend and implemented OpsCenter support for new features in the DSE server. In their most recent role as an Engineer in the Insights team, they implemented gRPC services for time series data stored in Elasticsearch.

Bret McGuire obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from The University of Kansas between 1992 and 1997. Bret later pursued further education and completed a Master of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota from 2005 to 2007.
