Preston Magouirk's work experience begins in 2010 when they worked as a Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic Associate at Loyola University. In 2011, they joined Teach for America as a Corps Member and also served as a 5th-grade Math Teacher at Ascension Parish School Board. In 2012, Preston worked as an intern in the Office of District Support at the Louisiana Department of Education. From 2013 to 2015, they were a Student and Associate Editor for the Peabody Journal of Education at Vanderbilt University. Preston then went on to work as an IES Pre-Doctoral Fellow in Education Policy and a Doctoral Student at the University of Virginia from 2015 to 2020. In 2017, Preston became a Graduate Research Fellow at the Louisiana Department of Education. In 2020, they transitioned to ExpandED Schools as a Senior Research Associate, and later joined Common App as a Data Scientist and then as a Senior Manager of Research & Analytics from 2020 to 2023. Currently, they hold the role of Chief Data Officer at DC College Access Program, starting in 2023.

Preston Magouirk has a solid education history. Preston began their academic journey at Neville High School but it is unknown when they attended or graduated from there. In 2007, they enrolled at Tulane University and successfully completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 2011. Following this, Magouirk pursued further education and attended Vanderbilt University from 2013 to 2015, where they earned a Master of Public Policy (M.P.P.) degree. Finally, from 2015 to 2020, they studied at the University of Virginia and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Education Policy.
