Melvin Pather

Melvin Pather has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Melvin began their career as an External Auditor at Sizwe Ntsaluba VSP in 2006 and worked there until 2008. In 2009, they joined Telesure Group Services as an Accountant for a brief period of six months. Later that year, they took on the role of Finance and IT Manager at Bankmed Medical Scheme and remained in that position until 2016. At Bankmed, they were responsible for financial management, budgeting, and IT operations.

In 2016, Melvin joined The Banking Association South Africa as an Operations and Information Security Manager. In this role, they handled various aspects of information security governance, risk management, and incident management. Melvin also oversaw IT operations, including hardware and software system configurations, troubleshooting, and project management. Additionally, they excelled in financial management and forecasting, ensuring adherence to IFRS standards and effective procurement management.

In 2022, Melvin moved on to work as a Cyber Security Consultant at AdvantageNZ, where they contributed their expertise until early 2023. Currently, they are employed as a Cyber Security Consultant at DEFEND.

Throughout their career, Melvin has gained extensive experience in information security, IT operations, financial management, and auditing.

Melvin Pather completed their Post Graduate Diploma in Management Practices (PGDIP) in Organizational Leadership from Henley Business School in 2019-2020. Before that, they graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree in B.Comm Accounting from the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika from 2003-2005. Melvin also completed their Matric - Grade 12 from Liverpool Secondary School in 1998-2002.

In terms of additional certifications, Melvin obtained various certifications from LinkedIn and ISACA. In 2022, they received certifications in Cybersecurity for Executives, Azure Active Directory: Basics, Incident Response Planning, Learning Azure Management Tools, Learning Azure Network Security, Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) Cert Prep: 1 Cloud Concepts, and Prepare for the Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) Exam. In 2021, they became a Certified Information Security Manager and obtained certifications in CISM Cert Prep: 1 Information Security Governance, CISM Cert Prep: 2 Information Risk Management, CISM Cert Prep: 3 Information Security Program Development and Management, CISM Cert Prep: 4 Information Security Incident Management, and CISM Cert Prep: The Basics. Additionally, they obtained the COBIT 2019 Foundation Certificate from ISACA in 2021 and learned COBIT in 2021 as well.
