Jessica Looman has dedicated their career to public service. Jessica began their career working for the State of Minnesota in 2011. In November 2017, they were appointed by Governor Dayton as the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Commerce. As Commissioner, Jessica was responsible for an agency budget of $200M and 345 employees. Jessica served on the Environmental Quality Board, the Governor’s Rail Council and represented Minnesota at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Accomplishments during their time as Commissioner include leading statewide financial literacy and fraud prevention and enforcement initiatives; growing Minnesota’s clean energy economy; and approval of lower health insurance rates for the 155,000 people served by Minnesota’s individual market.
In February 2019, Jessica left their position as Commissioner to become the Executive Director of the Minnesota State Building and Construction Trades Council. In this role, they advocated for 70,000 union construction professionals working in 15 construction trades throughout the State. Jessica focused on growing the union construction industry workforce, supporting diversity and inclusion in the construction industry, protecting the physical and financial health of union construction workers, and advocating for increased private and public investment in construction and infrastructure to grow our State’s economy.
Jessica is currently serving as the Acting Administrator for the Wage and Hour Division at the Department of Labor.
