Lia Pikus is a versatile professional with a strong background in writing, research, and advocacy. Currently serving as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow at the Watson Foundation since March 2021, Lia conducts independent international research. As a freelance writer for The Recording Academy since August 2020, Lia focuses on racial justice issues in the music industry, notably writing a featured piece on the Orchestra Is Racist movement. Lia also holds the position of senior Arts and Entertainment writer for The Rice Thresher, contributing concert coverage and album reviews. Previous experiences include roles as a resident teaching artist at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, music editorial intern at Paste Magazine, and international researcher for the Texas Center for Justice and Equity. Lia's earlier work includes serving as campaign and data manager for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and policy associate at the American Geosciences Institute. Lia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government, and Music from Rice University.
