Joseph Ochaba, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning from 2008 to the present. In 2008, they began working as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at San Diego State University, where they investigated differences in the spatiotemporal distribution of brain activity in children differing in language abilities. Joseph then moved on to become a Lab Manager/Research Assistant at the same university, where they managed laboratory inventories, ordering, and trained undergraduate and graduate students. In 2010, they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). From 2011 to 2017, they held various roles at UC Irvine, including Postdoctoral Research Fellow, N113L Teaching Assistant/Lead-TA Coordinator, and Graduate Student Researcher. In 2019, they became a Trainee Board of Directors Representative at Oligonucleotide Therapeutics Society. From 2017 to 2022, they worked at Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in roles such as Assistant Director, Senior Scientist, and Postdoctoral Fellow. Currently, they are a Principal Scientist at Design Therapeutics. Additionally, from 2012 to present, they have been a Staff Writer at HDBuzz.
Joseph Ochaba, PhD, obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Neurobiology and Behavior from UC Irvine in 2016. Prior to this, they obtained their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology, General from San Diego State University in 2011. In addition, they hold a Public Speaking Certificate from Bri McWhorter, Founder and CEO of Activate to Captivate, obtained in January 2016.
