Chantal Gagné

VP, Life & Health Insurance at Desjardins Financial Security

Chantal has graduated from Laval University, Quebec, Canada in May 2007 with a degree in Actuarial science. Soon after, she started her career at Desjardins in P&C insurance, a financial institution based in Lévis, Québec. She acted as an actuarial analyst and advisor for her first 6 years, where she became a predictive modelling expert. During that period, she also completed all the actuarial professional exams required to obtain her FCAS and FICA titles in 2010.

At 27 years old, she had her first management opportunity and became the director of the property pricing, being accountable for the profitability of that line of business nationally, representing an annual premium volume of $700M at the time. The year after, she left the actuarial department to strengthen her knowledge in insurance products and underwriting – a tough decision that truly represented a key turning point in her career.

The following years, many opportunities were presented to her including working on the IT system transformation project and being responsible for the rebranding strategy of the Canadian operations of State Farm that Desjardins had acquired. In 2016, Chantal had her first opportunity to work in the operations, becoming the VP of all claims client call center in Canada. This challenge allowed her to truly connect with the clients and gain experience in large group management (around 700 employees).

In 2019, she had the opportunity to occupy the VP position of all auto claims operations and also defining the vision and implementing solutions for both auto and property products, with 70 managers and more than 1000 employees under her responsibility.

Now the mother of a 2-years-old little girl, she is just starting a new role as Senior Vice-President Individual Insurance at Desjardins Wealth Management and Life and Health Insurance Executive Division. Her curiosity, adaptability, analytical skills and ease to connect with people are all qualities that allowed her to have an impact in many areas of the company in the first 13 years of a career.
