Kelsey Celek is currently the Affiliate Relations Program Coordinator at Destination Imagination. Prior to that, they spent four years as the Head of Education/Director of Student Theatre at Quincy Community Theatre, where they were awarded Outstanding Fine Arts Teacher of the Year by ArtsQuincy in 2018. As Director of Student Theatre, Kelsey was responsible for all productions featuring student performers (ages 8-18), which included five student theatre shows per year; two on the main stage, one in the black box, one specifically for junior high students, and one touring production. Kelsey was also the lead instructor for all classes taught at the theatre, which were for age 5-adults and a combination of creative drama and technique-based training. The classes covered topics such as improv, audition technique, scene study, sketch comedy, Shakespeare, or explored the stories of MagicTree House, Minecraft, and Mary Poppins. In addition to their classroom responsibilities, Kelsey also designed curriculum and led instruction for QCT’s outreach workshop program, which brought theatre to students in schools/libraries/community groups throughout Quincy and the surrounding rural areas. The workshops were designed based on requests of local teachers and recent topics included acting, musical theatre, pantomime, and playwriting. Kelsey was also co-director for the Quincy Junior High School’s Drama Club, which meets once a week throughout the school year to introduce assorted theatrical topics.
