Spencer Glantz has held a variety of roles in the medical and bioengineering fields. In 2011, they worked as a Biological Engineering Intern at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. Spencer then went on to pursue a PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania from 2012-2018. In 2018, Glantz was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at The Jackson Laboratory, where they combined genomics, synthetic biology and genome engineering approaches to design custom microbes as therapeutics for skin disease. Spencer also developed and taught courses at JAX for pre-doctoral, post-doctoral and faculty trainees. In the same year, Glantz also held a Postdoctoral Research Scientist role at Azitra Inc. Most recently, Glantz has been Co-Founder, Head of Research and Development at Detect since 2019. Spencer is motivated by the idea that their products will help to improve patient outcomes and the patient experience, lower healthcare costs and improve the physician experience by enabling earlier diagnosis and access to treatment.
Spencer Glantz obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017. Prior to that, they obtained a B.S.E. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the same university in 2011. In April 2022, they obtained a certification in Avoiding New Manager Mistakes from LinkedIn.
