Jim Long's work experience begins in 1982 with their role as a Venture Manager at Adler Ventures, where they evaluated deal flow and held temporary CEO/COO positions in portfolio companies. Jim then joined Veritas (Tolerant Software) in 1988 as VP Marketing-CoFounder, helping to pioneer the Unix file system and storage management software market. In 1990, they founded Starlight Networks, the first video streaming company, and served as CEO until its acquisition by Picturetel in 1998. From 1990 to 1998, they consulted for various venture firms and played a role in creating companies. In 2000, they became CEO of Rioport, a digital music device and internet services company. Jim later joined Gabriel Venture Partners as a Partner and Venture Partner, advising startup management and making investments in various companies. In 2011, they became a Board Member at POPS Worldwide, a Southeast Asian streaming media company. In 2013, they became a Student Mentor at Stanford University's School of Engineering. Currently, they serve as the CEO of Didja Inc, a nationwide service and cloud platform for supporting consumers and program/network providers of live TV.
Jim Long's education history includes obtaining an MBA with distinction from Harvard University between the years 1980 and 1982. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science with a software emphasis from the University of California, Berkeley from 1973 to 1977.
In addition to their formal education, Jim also holds certifications outside of academia. Jim obtained their Private Pilot's license from the FAA in September 1972. Later, in May 1983, they earned a Hang Glider Pilot - Hang-3 Rating from UDHGA.
