M. M. Hassan Mahmud

M. M. Hassan Mahmud has a strong background in machine learning and artificial intelligence. M. M. Hassan currently works at Digital Catapult as the Lead AI and Machine Learning Technologist, where they lead the AI technologies team and runs collaborative R&D projects in AI/ML for the company. M. M. Hassan is also responsible for running commercial AI/ML projects for corporate clients. Prior to that, Mahmud worked at Featurespace as a Data Scientist, where they completed a successful anti-money laundering project and built machine learning based fraud models. M. M. Hassan also worked at Blue Yonder GmbH as a Data Scientist, delivering data science solutions in retail and handling all aspects of the role. Mahmud's experience also includes research positions at The University of Edinburgh and The Australian National University, where they developed theories and algorithms for reinforcement learning in AI agents and solved difficult benchmark problems in the field.

M. M. Hassan Mahmud holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, which was completed in 2008. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Computer Science with a specialization in Machine Learning from the same university between 2000 and 2002. M. M. Hassan'sundergraduate education was at Stevens Institute of Technology, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science from 1997 to 2000. Additionally, in 2023, Mahmud completed a certification course titled "Global Warming I: The Science and Modeling of Climate Change" offered by the University of Chicago through Coursera.
