Shane Szarkowski, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Shane is currently serving as the Executive Director at The World in 2050 and as the Editor-in-Chief at Diplomatic Courier. In 2022, they also became a Fellow at the Salzburg Global Seminar. Prior to these positions, Shane worked as an Associate Director at Bulletin Intelligence from 2018 to 2021, and as the Editor-in-Chief at YPFP (Young Professionals in Foreign Policy) from 2018 to 2021. Shane also worked as a Policy Editor at PRIME Research UK from 2014 to 2019. Before transitioning into these roles, Shane held the position of Associate Lecturer/PhD Candidate at Oxford Brookes University, where they conducted research on peace building and identity construction in failed states, specifically in Afghanistan. Additionally, Shane has experience as a Consultant at Uganda Community Farm and served as the Head Dispatcher at South Dakota State University. Shane began their career in the United States Marine Corps as a Marine Security Guard from 1997 to 2002.
Shane Szarkowski, PhD, holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in International Relations/Security from Oxford Brookes University, which they obtained from 2009 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed their Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in International Studies (Security Studies) at the same institution from 2008 to 2009. Shane's earlier education includes a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Political Science/Global Studies/Cultural Geography from South Dakota State University, where they studied from 2003 to 2007.
Additionally, Shane has obtained certifications to enhance their academic qualifications. Shane received a PhD certification from Oxford Brookes University in October 2017. Furthermore, they obtained an Associate Fellow, Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) certification from the Higher Education Academy in November 2011.
