Pengzheng Zhang

Pengzheng Zhang is a software and data engineer who currently works at Discern.io. Pengzheng has also worked as a student consultant with International American Supermarkets and as a software engineer with Chengdu Jiuxinwei Tech Co. Ltd.

Pengzheng Zhang began their career as a student consultant with International American Supermarkets, where they worked closely with the director of operations to improve efficiency for IAS's labeling process, which is essential to IAS's food exportation business. Pengzheng also calculated expected ROI for different automated production line solutions to help IAS make decisions.

Pengzheng Zhang then became a software engineer with Chengdu Jiuxinwei Tech Co. Ltd, where they worked on using machine learning to predict critical values used in the company's key software product. Pengzheng implemented various classic regression models, such as Random Forest (RF), and tried various data preprocessing methods, PCA for example, to do the task. The best result was used as benchmark for future comparison. Pengzheng also built a Deep Neural Networks (DNN) model and fine-tuned the parameters, which increased accuracy by about 7% compared with the previous benchmark. The runtime was also decreased significantly compared with classic methods. Pengzheng interfaced with IT department and understood the difficulty they face. Pengzheng wrote inference (predict) part of DNN in C++ to solve compatibility issue faced by IT department.

Pengzheng Zhang has a Master's in Management Science and Engineering from Columbia University, a Master of Engineering from UC Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Pengzheng also has a certification in programming foundations: web security from LinkedIn.

They are on a team with Bowen Zhang - Software & Data Engineer, Hubert Glowiak - Frontend Developer, and Kaia Bergmann-Dean - Frontend Developer. Their manager is Wei Tang, VP of Engineering.
