Stephen McFarlane has a diverse and extensive work experience in the gaming industry. Stephen started their career in 1991 as a Freelance Illustrator, specializing in illustration. In 1994, they joined Arc Developments as a Concept Artist and eventually became the Game Director, responsible for game design and art direction. During this time, they also designed and pitched games to Sony and Bullfrog Studio. From 1998 to 2003, they worked at Rare Ltd as a Senior Artist, 3D Artist, and Concept Artist, contributing to games like "Jet Force Gemini" and "Mickey Speedway". Stephen then joined Rare Ltd (Microsoft Game Studios) in 2003 as a Lead Artist and gradually moved into an Art Direction role, overseeing concept, character, animation, environment, and graphics artists. Stephen successfully structured and relocated the team to an offsite location in Birmingham. In 2013, they briefly worked at 2dpixel.com as an Art Director/Manager before moving to One Thumb Mobile as an Art Director from 2014 to 2018. Stephen then joined FortuneFish Ltd as an Art Supervisor for three years before their most recent position as an Art Manager at Double Eleven Limited starting in 2021.
Stephen McFarlane began their education in 1988 at Kingston University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphics/Illustration. Stephen successfully completed their degree program in 1991. In 1994, Stephen participated in the British Animation Training Scheme at the Museum of Moving Image, where they qualified as an Assistant Animator.
