Myra Buys

Myra Buys lives in Douglas County with her husband and daughter. She grew up in the Denver Metro Area and has three adult children and five grandchildren.

Myra started her law enforcement career in 1988 when she attended the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy in San Bernardino, California. While working for San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy sheriff, she was assigned to their detention division and then the patrol division. During her last months on patrol, she worked during the Southern California riots in 1992.

In 1992 her family relocated to Douglas County, where she was hired as a patrol deputy. During her tenure with Douglas County, she has worked in Detentions as a deputy, sergeant, and lieutenant. She was assigned to the patrol division as a deputy, corporal, and sergeant. She worked in Community Relations as a sergeant, investigations as a detective, and recently as the Major Crime Lieutenant. While in Major Crime, she oversaw homicides, attempt homicides, felony sex assaults, felony crimes against children and at-risk adults, and cold cases. In 2021 she was promoted to Captain of Support Services.

Support Services encompass the Records Division, I.T, Dispatch, and Civil / Warrants.

Currently, Myra is a Coordinator on the Critical Incident Response Team. She has also served as a Crisis Negotiations Team Member, a School Resource Officer, a firearms instructor, and a Field Training Officer.

She is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command (Class 443).
