Troy A. McCarty

Captain McCarty began his career with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 1983. After graduating from Metropolitan State University with his Bachelor of Science Degree, Troy’s first assignment was in the Detentions Division, eventually working his way through all the major division in is his 38 years with the Sheriff’s Office.T McCarty

During Troy’s career, he has served as a Patrol Deputy, a Field Training Officer, SWAT Operator, SWAT Team Leader, SWAT Commander, Patrol Watch Commander, and a Persons Crimes Detective, specifically assigned to misdemeanor and felony domestic violence cases. Captain McCarty was assigned as a Lieutenant overseeing investigative operations in the Major Crimes Section. This included overseeing major case investigations involving homicides, felony sex assaults and internet crimes against children. During this time, Captain McCarty also served as a co-coordinator for the 18th Judicial District Critical Response Team.

Troy currently oversees all operations in the Highlands Ranch Division. This Division houses the Property Crimes Investigative Section, responsible for all property crimes, including auto thefts and burglary. It’s also home to the SET Unit (Special Enforcement Team), which is responsible for dealing with criminal trends plaguing Douglas County, specifically auto thefts and criminal trespasses, which often leads to more violent criminal activity. The IMPACT Unit is also assigned to the Highlands Ranch Division. They are responsible for investigating all high-profile crimes, narcotics investigations, robberies, and dignitary protection. IMPACT also provides High Tech Intelligence gathering capabilities, and augments other investigative sections during major criminal investigations. The Criminal Intelligence Section also works out of the Highlands Ranch Division and is responsible with providing the entire agency with real-time intelligence associated with any threats to the community, to the office, or to any law enforcement officer working for or with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. This division also manages the Sex Offender Registration Program or SOTAR. The Juvenile Unit is also assigned to this division, which includes the School Resource Officer Program, and the Y.E.S.S. Program.

Captain McCarty is a graduate of The National Sheriff’s Association Executive Leadership Program at the University of Louisville. Troy is currently very active in the Leadership Douglas County Program, which is a leadership-based program that brings leaders from various businesses in Douglas County together, providing multilevel networking opportunities to its participants.

Troy has lived in Douglas County for over 30 years and is joined by his Fiancé, and daughter who proudly serves this Country in the United States Navy.
