POSITION PURPOSE: An equipment operator is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy machinery and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber internet outside plant infrastructure. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate a variety of heavy machinery and equipment including but not limited to trenchers, directional boring machines, aerial lifts, dozers, and skidsteer loaders for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the outside plant.

  • With a shovel, dig trenches to expose utility lines and install vaults.

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

  • Maintain a safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations along with company policies and procedures. Take appropriate action in the event of a work site accident or incident. Follow established safety procedures including use of personal protective equipment to minimize exposure to roadway hazards. Immediately alert other employees and supervisors of any apparent or developing hazards.

  • Safely operate and maintain company vehicles.

  • Maintain equipment by performing routine checks and maintenance.

  • Keep detailed records. Complete all required documentation in a timely manner.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic. This is a high productivity position with minimal supervision.

  • Maintain good customer rapport by listening to and resolving customer concerns or questions.

  • Be knowledgeable about DFN products and services, promoting available services to current and potential customers when appropriate.

  • With training, possess the ability to read prints and other engineering documentation.

  • This job description covers the most crucial key and supplemental duties performed in the position, but does not include other occasional work, which may be similar, related to, or a logical assignment for the position. Other projects will be assigned as need.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mechanically inclined and detail oriented
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license. A valid commercial driver’s license is preferred but not required.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently or in a team
  • Professional appearance, customer service oriented
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Able to meet physical demands with reasonable accommodations if necessary. This position is considered heavy physical work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and 20 pounds of force frequently.
