Surya Narayanan, Ph.D. has a diverse range of work experience in the biosciences field. Starting in 2013, they worked as an Associate Researcher at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where they developed and optimized drug-loaded phospholipid micelles for breast cancer treatment. Surya also served as an Instructor, leading scientific discussions and mentoring students.
In 2016, Surya joined the UIC Department of Bioengineering as an Instructor, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and designing materials to target academic weaknesses. Surya also worked as a Bioengineering Scientist at the University of Illinois Chicago, where they developed formulations of active pharmaceutical ingredients and controlled nanocrystal size and morphology.
Surya's experience also includes a role as a Visiting Research Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, where they conducted research, and as an Entrepreneur In Residence at the Centre for Advanced Innovation, where they led a team to develop commercialization strategies for pre-clinical assets.
Surya then joined Wayne State University as a Research Assistant and later became the Vice Chair of Membership at Women in Bio, a non-profit organization.
Surya has also held positions at Unchained Labs, where they served as a Mid Atlantic Analytical Specialist and an Analytical Associate-Eastern, responsible for managing accounts, providing technical support, and driving multi-million dollar capital equipment sales. Surya is currently working at Atrandi Biosciences and Droplet Genomics as a Regional Business Development Leader.
In 2021, they worked as a Venture Associate at the Global Bio Fund, contributing to investment decisions and evaluating opportunities in the biotech industry. Surya Narayanan, Ph.D. obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biotechnology from New Horizon College of Engineering, where they studied from 2007 to 2011. Surya then pursued further education at the University of Illinois Chicago, where they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Bioengineering from 2013 to 2020. In 2019, they also attended Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, where they took a course on Commercialization in the Context of Life Sciences. In March 2020, they obtained a certification in the Design and Interpretation of Clinical Trials from John Hopkins University.
