Rik Aertsen

Member of Legal Working Group Corporate at Dutch Banking Association

Rik Aertsen has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Rik started their career in 2007 at ING Real Estate Finance as a Senior Legal Counsel, eventually becoming the Head of Legal. In 2013, they joined ING as a Managing Legal Counsel in Commercial Banking Legal and later transitioned to the role of Principal Legal Counsel in Wholesale Banking Legal. During their time at ING, they also represented the company in the Legal Working Group Corporate of the Dutch Banking Association.

In addition to their roles at ING, Rik Aertsen has held positions outside the company. Rik served as a Board Member and Secretary for the CDA Bunnik from 2016 to 2022. Rik was also a Board Member of the Dutch Association of In-House Legal Counsel (NGB) and a Fellow at the Radboud Business Law Institute | OO&R. Furthermore, they have been involved with the Stichting Bachiene Institut voor Vastgoedrecht as a Board Member and the Editorial Board of Bedrijfsjuridische berichten (Legal Journal).

Overall, Rik Aertsen has a wealth of experience in legal counsel, management, and leadership roles in the banking and legal sectors.

Rik Aertsen's education history begins with their enrollment at St. Ignatiusgymnasium Amsterdam from 1983 to 1989, where they obtained a Gymnasium degree. Rik later attended the University of Groningen from 1989 to 1995, earning a Master of Laws (Nederlands recht). In 1994, Rik became an exchange student in law at the University of Wisconsin Law School. Rik then returned to their studies and pursued a Master of Studies in Legal Research at the University of Oxford from 1999 to 2000. Eventually, Rik completed their education by obtaining a Ph.D. in Law from Radboud University in 2004.
