Alex Kern

Scientist II, Experimental Science at Dyno Therapeutics

Alex Kern is currently a Scientist I, Platform at Dyno Therapeutics. Alex has also worked as a PhD Candidate at Stanford University from September 2017 to August 2022, where they earned their PhD working on computational evolutionary genomics, CRISPR screening with precision genome edits, and quantitative genetics. Kern has also worked as a Build Intern at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. from July 2016 to July 2017, where they ran and developed robust, high-throughput processes for strain construction as well as testing and validating new technologies for strain construction and modification. Alex also developed and worked with software for automating lab operations and sample tracking. Prior to that, Kern was an undergraduate researcher at Northwestern University from November 2014 to June 2016, where they did biological research on mitochondrial tethering in yeast. Alex was also a tutor at Tutor.com from July 2014 to August 2016 and an undergraduate research assistant at Northwestern University from April 2013 to February 2014.

Alex Kern attended Simsbury High School before studying Integrated Science, Mathematics, and Biology at Northwestern University for their Bachelor's degree. Afterwards, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics from Stanford University.
