Tom Huynh

Associate Superintendent of Human Resources at EAST SIDE UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT

Tom Huynh is entering his 23rd year in Education. Thirteen of which have been with East Side Union High School District. After completing his undergraduate and post-graduate studies at Saint Mary’s College, Tom began his journey in education as a classroom teacher at Newark Memorial High School. During his time at NMHS, Tom also served as the Bay Area School Reform Collaborative (BASRC) School Reform Coordinator, Literacy Coach, and Coordinator of High Tech High School and was named Newark Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year.

Tom was the Senior Project Manager for East Side’s Bond Program for two years. Prior to that, Mr. Huynh served as a site administrator for 10 years (three as Associate Principal, seven as Principal). During his time as Principal at Yerba Buena, he was named ACSA Region 8’s Secondary Principal of the Year.

Throughout his childhood, the influence of his teachers, ESL paraeducator, administrators and coaches played a profound role in shaping his educational and life journey. He has three children: the oldest recently graduated from Yerba Buena High School, and the other two are currently attending Yerba Buena. He is truly invested in the work that ESUHSD is doing to support student learning and strongly believes that adults in our education system have much more influence and impact than they realize.

Mr. Huynh is excited and humbled to serve as Associate Superintendent of Human Resources. Within this role, he looks forward to working with all stakeholders to enable the East Side Union High School District to build equitable communities and offer the best education possible for all students.
