Bob Hu

Principal Application Research Scientist at Eastman

Bob Hu, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience in the field of application research and polymer chemistry. Bob is currently working at Eastman, where they started as an Application Research Scientist in July 2018 and has gradually progressed to the role of Senior Application Research Scientist and then to Principal Application Research Scientist. At Eastman, they are involved in conducting research and developing applications related to polymers and materials.

Prior to joining Eastman, Bob Hu worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2014 to 2018. During this time, they focused on developing elastomers with designed mechanical properties, synthesizing brush polymers, and designing nanoparticles for coating and controlled release of active materials.

Before their postdoctoral research, Bob Hu worked as a Research Chemist at DuPont China R&D from 2011 to 2013. During their time at DuPont, they developed non-halogen flame retardant engineering polymers for the electronics industry, led industry-university collaborations for new flame retardant technologies, developed laminates for electric products, and optimized extrusion conditions for automotive nanocomposites.

Overall, Bob Hu's work experience showcases their expertise in polymer chemistry, materials research, and application development, making him a valuable asset in the field.

Bob Hu, Ph.D. earned their Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Sun Yat-sen University in 2005. Bob then pursued further education at South China University of Technology, where they obtained their Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry and Physics in 2011. During their Ph.D. studies, Bob Hu also spent time as a Visiting Scholar at Georgia Institute of Technology from 2009 to 2011, specializing in Polymer Chemistry.
