Ines Smit

Ines Smit is a Safety Data Scientist at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) since November 2022, focusing on enhancing target safety annotations for the Open Targets Platform and integrating human genetics with drug safety data. Prior to this, Ines served as a Life Science Specialist at Linguamatics from October 2020 to September 2022, where responsibilities included developing biomedical vocabularies for Natural Language Processing (NLP) and creating solutions for information extraction from diverse document types. Ines's earlier experience includes curating drug toxicity data as part of the HeCaToS project at EMBL-EBI from June 2014 to September 2016. Ines holds a PhD in Chemistry with a specialization in Cheminformatics from the University of Cambridge, a Master's in Medical Science specializing in Toxicology from Karolinska Institutet, and a Bachelor's in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a focus on biology and chemistry from Amsterdam University College, alongside the International Baccalaureate from UWC Costa Rica.
