Mikko Heikelä has a wide range of experience in various roles. Mikko started their career as a Teaching Assistant in Helsinki University of Technology from 2000 to 2001. Mikko later worked as a Research Assistant in the same institution from 2002 to 2006.
In 2006, they joined Futurice as a Software Developer and worked on mobile solutions for customers. Mikko then held the role of Senior Consultant where they contributed to customer projects and organizational topics. Mikko eventually became the Business Director and Consultant, sharing management responsibilities and providing consulting work on agile methods, backend development, and machine learning.
From 2015 to 2018, Mikko served as Technology Director at Futurice, helping clients with their data-driven needs and leading projects. During their time, they also served as a Technology Director in Data and AI, focusing on the Data Science offering in Futurice London.
Currently, Mikko is the Chief Technology Officer at EduMe. In this role, they lead their engineering organization, supports team members' growth, ensures technical direction and ways of working, and helps improve the company's mobile learning tools.

Mikko Heikelä obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Physics from Teknillinen korkeakoulu-Tekniska högskolan, where they studied from 1999 to 2007. In addition to their formal education, Mikko has pursued various certifications in the field of deep learning and neural networks. Mikko obtained the "Deep Reinforcement Learning Nanodegree" from Udacity in February 2019, and the "Deep Learning Specialization," "Sequence Models," "Convolutional Neural Networks," "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization," "Neural Networks and Deep Learning," and "Structuring Machine Learning Projects" certifications from Coursera between September 2017 and February 2018.
