Shawna Marino

Shawna Marino has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Shawna started their career as a Senior Account Executive at Schneider Associates in 2006. Shawna then worked as a Graduate Fellow in the Senate Fiscal Office for the State of Rhode Island, analyzing budgets and publishing reports. Shawna also served as a Special Projects Liaison in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, managing a program to highlight the stories of military servicemembers.

In 2010, Shawna volunteered for The Lamia Afghan Foundation, promoting their humanitarian work and raising funds. Shawna also worked as a Press and Legislative Fellow in the Office of Senator Scott Brown. In 2011, they joined Direct Impact/Burson-Marsteller as a Senior Project Manager/Manager.

In 2020, Shawna joined the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health as a Rapid Testing Strategic Communications and Policy Advisor, being responsible for policymaking and media relations for a COVID-19 testing program. Shawna later became an advisor at Detect, a company that developed a home COVID-19 test. Shawna then worked at Protein Evolution, a biological recycling start-up, focusing on government relations and strategic communications to reduce plastic waste.

Since 2012, Shawna has held various roles at EF Education First, including Vice President, Director of EF Properties, and Director of Public Affairs. Their responsibilities involved leading expansion efforts, managing public policy and community relations, and facilitating educational programs for students.

Shawna Marino holds a Masters degree in Public Policy from Brown University, which they completed in 2011. In the same year, they participated in the Exchange Scholar Program at Harvard Kennedy School, focusing on Public Policy. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science and German from Boston College in 2006. Additionally, they briefly studied International Relations and Political Science at The University of Freiburg in 2005.
