Aviva Marer worked as a Cantor at the Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation from July 2018 to present. Prior to that, they served as a Cantor and Director of Youth Engagement at Temple Emanu-El starting in July 2013. Aviva also worked as a B'nei Mitzvah Tutor and High Holy Day Cantorial Intern at Congregation Rodeph Sholom from September 2008 to June 2013. Aviva Marer was a Student Cantor at Temple Israel from 2012 to 2013 and at Riverdale Temple from September 2010 to June 2012.
Aviva Marer began their education in 2001 at Carleton University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Music Degree with a focus on Classical Vocal Performance. Aviva attended Carleton University until 2005. Following their undergraduate studies, Marer continued their education at York University from 2005 to 2007, where they earned a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting. In 2008, they enrolled at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion-New York, where they obtained a Master of Sacred Music degree. Aviva simultaneously pursued ordination as a Cantor, culminating in their graduation in 2013.
