Peter Matthews has over 17 years of professional experience in engineering. Peter began their career as an Undergrad Research Assistant at the University of Virginia in 2004. After graduating, they worked as a Research Associate at the University of California, San Francisco Cardiac Biomechanics Lab from 2006 to 2010, where they used mechanical testing and finite element analysis to develop computational models of the pathological heart and contributed to the invention of a novel medical prosthesis. In 2010, they worked as an Engineering Consultant at Telophase Technologies, LLC, designing, building, and deploying custom laboratory instruments. From 2010 to 2011, they worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and Senior System Integration Engineer at Primus Power, where they owned development of stack subsystems, built first-principle models of stack compression, electroplating, and heat transfer, and developed tools to analyze data from their fleet of batteries and microgrid sites. From 2018 to 2021, they worked as a Sr Staff Controls Engineer at Bloom Energy, optimizing operation of their Integrated Energy Storage product and developing tools to analyze data from 10 MWh of batteries in the field. Most recently, they have been working as a Staff Engineer at Electric Hydrogen since 2021, where they are thinking big and with urgency to decarbonize the physical world.
Peter Matthews received their Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2006. Peter then went on to obtain their Master of Science in Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010.
